STRUCTURAL DESIGN - PART 14

English english language

21. Stresses sx - Left abutment - Load combination no. 5C

N.B. The high values of the compressive stresses at the base of the following vertical sections (coloured in blue) are not significant, because they are due to the local effect produced by the presence of the restraints at the base of the abutments. For the same reason the stresses in the lateral regions of the sections near to the ends of the model are not significant, because they are a local effect of the restraints in the end sections. Moreover, the thermal uniform variation was considered in safety acting not only on the masonry structure of the bridge, but also of the abutments.

Left abutment Vertical Section at 82 cm (load combination no. 5C) - (sx in kg / cm2)
